Kid Friendly Dentistry

A child’s first experience at the dentist’s office largely impacts the way he or she will feel about these appointments in the future, so let us help make the first visit enjoyable and leave your kids looking forward to their next checkup!

First impressions are pivotal–especially with children! That’s why here at Mont Belvieu Dental, we put all our energy towards making your child’s first appointment a positive one. We are all about creating a long-lasting impression that gets your little one’s lifetime of dental health started on the right foot! To keep on top of your child’s oral health, we recommend scheduling an initial appointment when the first tooth comes in. However, no matter when your child visits us for the first time, the appointment will focus on getting to know your child, checking gums and teeth, educating you on how to care for your child’s teeth as they develop, and if necessary, we may do a little cleaning.

Oral Hygiene Habits at Home

Developing regular oral hygiene habits is absolutely necessary in maintaining your child’s healthy, happy smile and should be started as soon as the first teeth begin to erupt. Why do we care so much about the primary teeth since they fall out anyway? The health of these first teeth and the habits developed in the earliest years have a big impact on the health of permanent teeth and oral hygiene throughout life. In order to protect against decay and ensure the very best dental health, we recommend checking regularly for signs of decay and brushing teeth with age-appropriate toothpaste 4x per day–preferably after each meal and before bed to remove the sugars that remain in the mouth after eating and drinking. If left, these sugars turn into acid that attacks the teeth and causes cavities. Flossing to remove difficult-to-reach plaque build-up is another key component of a strong oral hygiene routine. Our staff will discuss with you when and how to begin flossing your child’s teeth.

Routine Dental Care

Good home habits, while extremely important, are not enough to ensure proper preventative care and rid your child’s teeth completely of harmful plaque build up. Dental cleanings and exams every 6 months will do a world of good for you little one’s smile. During these appointments, our friendly, experienced team will professionally clean each tooth, monitor the health and development of the jaw and teeth, and treat any problem areas before they become bigger issues. We offer sealants to protect hard-to-reach areas of your child’s teeth for years to come and also recommend fluoride treatments twice a year to help strengthen teeth. We also use advanced x-ray technology to monitor and maintain optimal oral health.

Don't let your family's teeth control when you end up at the dentist.
